Privacy Policy

Last updated 6 October 2026

Draft pending legal review. This policy accurately describes what My Fuel Find collects today, but it has not been reviewed by a legal practitioner. It should be before the service launches commercially.

My Fuel Find helps South African drivers compare fuel prices and earn rewards, and helps station owners reach them. This policy explains what we collect, why, who it is shared with, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

What we collect

Account details. Your name, email address and (optionally) phone number, held so we can identify you and contact you about your account.

Vehicle and preferences. Vehicle make, model and year, your preferred fuel grade, and your notification choices for price changes, promotions and rewards.

Location. Only when you grant permission, and only on your device, to sort stations by distance and show them on a map. Your location is not transmitted to us or stored on our servers.

Activity. Stations you save as favourites, reviews and ratings you submit, price corrections you report, points you earn by scanning at a pump, and rewards you redeem.

Payment details. If you subscribe, PayFast processes the payment. We never see or store your full card number — only the card brand, expiry and last four digits, plus a token PayFast gives us to identify the card.

Device tokens. If you enable push notifications, a device token so we can send them. You can revoke this at any time in your device settings.

Why we collect it

To run the service: show you accurate local fuel prices, award and redeem points, send the alerts you asked for, process subscription payments, and show station owners aggregate performance for their promotions.

Reviews you write are shown publicly alongside your display name. Everything else is visible only to you and, where necessary for support, to our administrators.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Supabase — hosting and database.
  • PayFast — payment processing. They receive your email and payment details directly.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery.
  • Google Maps — map display in the mobile apps, subject to Google's own privacy policy.
  • Expo — push notification delivery.
  • Anthropic — station owners' AI features. Station review text may be sent for sentiment analysis. Driver account details are not.

Some of these providers process data outside South Africa. POPIA permits this where the recipient is subject to comparable protection.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account is open. Delete your account and we remove your profile, favourites, device tokens and points history. Financial records are retained as long as South African tax and financial law requires. Reviews may remain visible in anonymised form.

Your rights under POPIA

You may ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to processing, and withdraw consent for marketing at any time. Notification preferences are in your profile; push notifications can be switched off on your device.

To exercise any of these, contact us at the address below. If you believe we have handled your information improperly you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).

Security

Data is held in a Postgres database with row-level security, so each account can reach only its own records. Payment card numbers never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

Children

My Fuel Find is intended for licensed drivers and is not directed at children under 18.
